The Marquette Six


Six African American students who were charged for the sit-in in Dean Niemi's office


David Williams, Pat Williams, Vernon Smalls, Christopher Poole, Loren Lobban, and Phillip Harper.

These six African American students were identified by the administration as leaders of the sit-in in Dean Niemi’s office in December of 1969. The county charged them with trespass and kidnapping. The “Trial of the Marquette Six,” as the press called it, ended in a mistrial.
